Summary

In about four months, AI tools went from citing Truein to define HR terms to recommending it as attendance software to buy. DerivateX, an SEO and GEO agency for B2B SaaS, rebuilt Truein’s key pages around buyer questions, placed articles on sites AI tools already cite, fixed the technical basics and tracked Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Gemini every week.

Before vs after: Truein in Google AI, ChatGPT and Google search since June 2026

Before is the first tracked period: June 2026 for Google search, and early August 2026 for AI answer tracking, when the like-for-like set of buyer questions went live. Rows for Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Gemini compare month two (24 Jul to 23 Aug) with month three (24 Aug to 23 Sep), unless a row says otherwise. After is the latest period, up to 20 October 2026. We list only metrics with a clear starting point.

Live checks with no clean starting point, such as Google’s AI Overview for “contract workers attendance”, are in the results below.

Why AI tools were not recommending Truein in June 2026

Truein builds face recognition and GPS attendance for contract, field and multi-site workforces. Its buyers run construction crews, manpower agencies and facility teams across the US, India and the Gulf. More and more of those buyers ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI Overviews which tool to shortlist before they ever visit a vendor site.

Our June baseline found three problems.

  • AI tools cited Truein for the wrong reason. Its blog was well known for explaining HR terms, so AI answers quoted Truein to define words like PTO or a missed punch. On buying questions they recommended someone else.
  • Truein was missing from most US buying questions. In live ChatGPT tests on a US connection, Truein appeared in only 2 of 11 core buyer questions. It ranked #1 in both, which showed the product could win when the right page existed. Workyard, Connecteam, QuickBooks Time, busybusy and ExakTime held every “alternatives” question.
  • Commercial pages sat on pages 2 to 4 of Google. For example, “contractor time tracking app” ranked about #18 and “construction time tracking software” about #41. Clicks on informational content were shrinking as AI answers took the top of the results page.
Card: in June 2026 only about 6% of Truein's Bing AI citations came from buyer or product questions, with the rest led by HR terms such as PTO and missed punch
June 2026: only about 6% of Truein’s Bing AI citations came from buyer or product questions

Truein also flagged a real limit: there are few niche publications in time and attendance, so third-party coverage would have to come from construction, HR and automation outlets.

How DerivateX grew Truein’s AI search visibility

The work ran across six workstreams, combining ChatGPT SEO, Gemini SEO, Google AI Overviews and classic Google SEO.

Landing pages built around one buying question each

  • AI answers favour a page that matches the exact question.
  • We shipped 8 new landing pages and revamped 5 more. Each was built around one job, for example:
    • face recognition time clocks for construction crews
    • stopping buddy punching
    • contract labour attendance
    • construction attendance in the GCC
    • a side-by-side comparison of live face verification against two well-known US competitors
  • Every page carries:
    • a clear answer in the first lines
    • a comparison table
    • an FAQ
    • matching schema

Content rewritten for the page types AI tools cite

  • In Truein’s category, 76% of US AI citations go to listicles, product pages, comparisons and alternatives pages. Blog how-to posts get under 7%. So we put effort where citations actually go:
    • 8 new comparison and “best of” posts, for example the best biometric attendance systems in India, WorkMax alternatives for contractors, and the best attendance software for UAE manpower agencies.
    • 10 blog revamps and 10 content optimisations.
    • 40 title and description rewrites in four sprints. On the first 10 pages, clicks rose 24% in two weeks while the rest of the site fell 3.4%.
  • The quality-over-volume call. Truein proposed scaling to 40 to 60 pieces a month. We looked at what actually wins:
    • The US category leader in AI answers grows on about 4 new pages a month.
    • A competitor publishing 40 to 80 pages a month was losing AI share.
    • We recommended 20 to 25 strong pieces a month instead. Every brief now starts from the questions buyers ask and the pages AI already cites.

Third-party articles on sites AI tools already cite

  • AI answers lean on outside sources as well as a brand’s own site. We placed 15 articles on construction, HR and automation publications, each comparing tools for a specific buyer question.
  • Every placement had to pass two checks: is the site already cited by AI for that question, and is it relevant to Truein’s buyers?
  • In month three, AI tools retrieved these articles about 3.4x as often as in month two.

Technical SEO and schema fixes

  • Duplicate <head> and <body> tags on 44 pages. Embedded code blocks had them, which can confuse crawlers. Truein’s developers fixed them and we verified every page.
  • Schema:
    • Some scripts were left unclosed, which had made parts of the live schema invisible. We repaired them.
    • Then added structured data to 10 core pages, then the pricing page with per-region pricing.
    • Review stars now show in Google results.
  • Link previews. 344 pages shared the homepage’s link preview, so we sent the fix.
  • Sitemap audit: 422 of 440 URLs were clean. The rest were fixed, and missing pages were added.
  • Internal links. 6 sprints sent 50+ posts’ authority to 20 commercial pages. In the fifth sprint, the linked pages moved from position 12.3 to 9.7 in two weeks.
  • Toxic link clean-up, and a flag on location-based content that crawlers might never see.

Original research and a Grokipedia entry

  • The Middle East Construction and Site Workforce Workday Report 2026 is built from attendance records rather than surveys: 3.0 million shifts across 1,278 sites. It gives AI tools original numbers to cite.
  • We also got a sourced Grokipedia page for Truein live, so AI tools have an accurate public summary of the company.

AI answer tracking and demo attribution

  • Weekly AI answer tracking across the US, India and the GCC, with 23 to 30 buyer questions per region, run across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode.

Across every tracked buyer question from 3 August to 20 October, truein.com is the domain AI answers pull from most in both regions. It sits ahead of competitors, YouTube and review sites. This is the clearest sign that AI tools now treat Truein’s own pages as the reference for this category.

It is the same operating rhythm behind our Gumlet case study.

Next steps and open challenges for Truein

  • The broad US market is still competitive. Long-established US brands lead general US answers, and Truein is not yet a top-five brand there. The next phase goes deeper on US construction, with more comparison pages and third-party articles aimed at the questions US crews and contractors ask.
  • Google AI Mode is harder than AI Overviews. Between month two and month three, Truein’s visibility in AI Mode fell in India and the GCC while AI Overviews and ChatGPT rose. We track each engine separately rather than relying on one blended number, and AI Mode is a focus for the next phase.
  • Clicks lag visibility. Better rankings and more citations do not always turn into more clicks straight away, so we report on demos and AI-referred conversions alongside rankings.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for a B2B SaaS brand to show up in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews?

For Truein, first mentions in Google AI Overviews and Claude on target questions appeared about a week after the first new pages and articles went live in August 2026. Timing varies by category and competition, and no one can promise placement. More on how long it takes to get cited by ChatGPT.

What kind of content do AI tools cite when buyers compare software?

Pages built around one buying question, with a direct answer, a comparison table and an FAQ. In Truein’s category, listicles, product pages, comparisons and alternatives pages took most US AI citations, and blog how-to posts took very few.

Does publishing more blog posts improve AI search visibility?

Not on its own. In Truein’s category, the brands publishing the most pages were not the ones AI tools named most. Fit to the buyer question mattered more than volume.

How do you measure AI search visibility by country?

We track a fixed set of real buyer questions for each region every week across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. We record how often the brand is named, its position and which sources the answers use, and demo tracking separates AI-referred demos from Google.

Can a SaaS company from India win AI answers in the Gulf and the US?

Yes, when its pages match local buyer questions. Truein’s biggest gains came in the GCC, after it published pages for the questions Gulf buyers ask, such as construction attendance and manpower supply.

Does this approach work for Google AI Overviews and AI Mode?

For AI Overviews, it did for Truein: its share of AI Overview answers rose in the GCC, India and the US, and Google’s AI Overview for “contract workers attendance” cites Truein first. AI Mode has been less stable, so it is tracked separately.

Do technical SEO fixes matter for AI search?

Yes. AI tools and search crawlers need to read a page cleanly before they can cite it. For Truein that meant fixing duplicate head tags, broken schema and shared link previews, and adding structured data to core and pricing pages.

Do visitors from ChatGPT and other AI tools convert better than Google organic visitors?

For Truein they did. AI-referred visitors booked demos at several times the organic rate in each of the first three months.
